Master Potter
Kenneth Neilsen
Meet Kenneth Neilsen
Kenneth began throwing pots as a high school student in Cary in 1980. After co-founding DK Clay Pottery and decades of perfecting his craft, he opened Cary Pottery in 2013 with his wife Glenda in a lovingly restored 1920s house.
The Craftsmanship
From wheel to kiln, each piece is handmade and glazed by Kenneth using a balance of chemistry, experience, and experimentation. He’s known for his layered glazes, durable forms, and thoughtful function.

Potter Apprentice
Kasey
Meet Kenneth Neilsen’s Apprentice Potter, Kasey. She has been working for Cary Pottery since 2019, bringing her own flair and experience to the studio. As a high school art teacher, she is a very creative thinker and has an artistic eye towards any clay creations. Her detailed work with painting and sculpting have added to the diversity of projects created with Kenneth’s work. While working with the Master Potter, Kasey has continued to develop her skills and lends another creative hand in future product development.
